CEAA Environmental Assessment for the Planning and Construction of the Victoria International Marina (Victoria, BC)

CEAA Environmental Assessment for the Planning and Construction of the Victoria International Marina (Victoria, BC)

This project included the completion of a detailed Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) Screening Study for the construction of a new marina in Victoria Harbour.

The studies included a detailed marine habitat assessment using SCUBA to document and classify the biological and physical marine environment.

The study included marine sediment sampling, development of project specific environmental protection plans (EPP’s), permits and approvals, habitat compensation, public consultation, and monitoring of dredging and pile driving works.

Greenshores Project Environmental Assessment (CEAA) Snaw-naw-as land near (Nanoose Bay, BC )

Greenshores Project Environmental Assessment (CEAA) Snaw-naw-as land near (Nanoose Bay, BC )

Chatwin Engineering Ltd is proud to have completed one of the first Greenshores Shoreline restoration projects on Vancouver Island.

This project involved the restoration of 100m of eroding beach located on the Snaw’naw’as First Nation reserve near Nanoose Bay BC.

Environmental Impact Assessment for the Proposed Residential Development within Glen Oaks development lands (Nanaimo, BC)

Environmental Impact Assessment for the Proposed Residential Development within Glen Oaks development lands (Nanaimo, BC)

The basis of the assessment was to determine environmental constraints and opportunities for development within the site and to advise on measures for mitigating potential impacts from housing, roads and underground infrastructure development.

Our biologists conducted a detailed environmental assessment of a 28 hectare residential development along the upper bluffs of the Linley Valley / Hammond Bay within the City of Nanaimo.

CEAA Screening Assessments for First Nations Infrastructure Projects (Vancouver Island)

CEAA Screening Assessments for First Nations Infrastructure Projects (Vancouver Island)

First Nation Bands across Vancouver Island bring us in to work with them on the feasibility, pre- and post design and construction of housing, water systems, and wastewater treatment systems, dock and marina development projects. Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) studies are required for these projects.

Our CEAA screening studies document influence to marine and freshwater fish and fish habitat, wetlands, wildlife, forest communities, cultural heritage and species at risk.

Boorman Road Steep Slope Engineering and Bioengineering Stabilization (BC Ministry of Highways)

Boorman Road Steep Slope Engineering and Bioengineering Stabilization (BC Ministry of Highways)

We delivered engineering designs to control water flow and the rebuilding of a large slope at the head of a ravine.

The slope had calved off leaving an undercut slope which was threatening a private property.

The overhanging soil was pulled down and the slope was rebuilt to a 3:1 slope. A pipe was installed to carry water flow to the bottom where a dissipation structure and rock armoured channel directed flows into the creek.

Search and Rescue Boathouse and Community Paddle Dock (Nanaimo, BC.)

Search and Rescue Boathouse and Community Paddle Dock (Nanaimo, BC.)

Chatwin Engineering completed an environmental assessment and marine habitat survey for the City of Nanaimo.

Our biologists and planners used SCUBA to document marine habitat characteristics at the site for the new boathouse and community paddle dock on Newcastle Channel.

The project included a review of impacts to sensitive eelgrass beds within the site, development of environmental protection measures during construction, and a habitat compensation plan to transplant of 700m2 of eelgrass at Protection Island.
